Choosing Your First-Dance Song

first dance songYou surely know that the music is of high importance at your wedding and choosing the band or DJ should be one of the first things on your to-do-list. If you’ve picked the best among wedding bands Scotland (for example), can offer, you can be sure your guests will be entertained. But, you still need to focus on special songs that should (or shouldn’t) be played on your big day. So, what will your first-dance song be?

It’s important to pick a love song that’s actually about happiness. Trust me on this one: the best love songs are about unrequited love or broken up relationship. So, make sure you run through the lyrics before making your final decision. Yes, “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston is written as a breakup song. Your first-dance song needs to have both a good melody and good lyrics.

The other thing you should keep in mind is that your first-dance song has to be YOURS and personal. Maybe it appears in the film you both love or it came on the radio while you were on your first date? If it speaks to you more than all the other love songs, choose it and you won’t regret!

staticDon’t wait until the wedding to meet any of your vendors, including your wedding music performers. You’ve chosen them because they’re the best, right? So, ask them to give you some advice on your first-dance song. Do they already perform the song you’ve chosen for your first-dance? If they don’t, ask them to learn to play it. If they think you should re-consider some song (because it’s too slow, too long, too… whatever), you should take their opinion into account. After all, they are professional musicians, so they probably know what they are talking about. Rocking back and forth for four minutes will feel like forever, so make sure you either include a little choreography or choose a shorter/faster song. If, however, the song you want to dance to is, for example, too long, ask them to perform a shorter version.

Finally, a first-class first dance depends on the music, your moves, but mostly on your attitude, chemistry and confidence. Make sure you choose the song that will make your love for each other shine through!
